Yellow Emperor spent 10 days volunteering with UpClose Bolivia to help improve the lives of children in Bolivia.

UpClose Bolivia is a Non-Governmental Organization located in Bolivia which aims to help vulnerable communities and populations in Bolivia. UpClose Bolivia “is based on the concept of “RECIPROCIDAD” which means “reciprocity”- a concept at the heart of Andean culture. It is all about giving back and contributing in a way which enriches both the person who is giving and the person who is receiving equally.” UpClose invites volunteers from around the world to participate in environmentally-friendly tourism by volunteering for the projects they run, and aims to give the volunteers a true sense of belonging to the community. Volunteers can help the organization through donating their time to one of the many projects started by UpClose such as the Valley of the Moon Children’s Center, the Equine Therapy Center, The Community Arts Project, and the La Paz Zoo which helps trafficked and abused animals. Volunteers can also contribute to UpClose’s educational projects by teaching English at the local schools as well as coaching football.

Yellow Emperor volunteered its time to work with the Valley of the Moon Children’s Center to help fix many of the structural issues at the center and helping to set up educational experiences in the greenhouse about healthy living and the benefits of plants. Yellow Emperor also spent time at the Equine Therapy Center and was able to speak to several employees and volunteers of UpClose Bolivia to learn more about the immense impact that the organization has on the community.
